Pictures Show Chola-Inspired 'Sengol', Symbol Of Sovereignty, Labeled As 'Golden Walking Stick Gifted To Nehru' At Anand Bhawan In Prayagraj

On Wednesday ( 24 May), Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that the historic 'Sengol' sceptre would be installed in India's newly constructed Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The 'Sengol' sceptre holds immense historical significance, having been originally presented to India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, by Lord Mountbatten during the time of independence.
This ceremonial exchange marked the symbolic transfer of power from the British to the Indian government and subsequently led to the 'Sengol' being housed in a museum in Allahabad.
Representing authority, power, legitimacy, and sovereignty, the 'Sengol' is a sacred emblem that embodies the rich heritage of the Chola dynasty.
However, following the transfer of power, the esteemed 'Sengol' found its home at Anand Bhawan in Prayagraj.
Recently surfaced pictures from the museum in Uttar Pradesh depict the 'Sengol' without proper labeling, mistakenly referred to as a "golden walking stick gifted to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru."
Now, with the decision to relocate the 'Sengol' to the newly constructed Parliament building, the historic sceptre will be prominently displayed as a symbol of India's sovereignty.
