News Brief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quoted mentioning the names of the terror outfits Indian Mujahideen and the banned Popular Front of India in his criticism of the Opposition front's choice of christening itself as "INDIA."
In response to PM's barb, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to retort.
Gandhi reiterated the Opposition front's commitment to facilitate the healing of Manipur and rebuild "the Idea of India" in the northeastern state. This particular phrase, "the Idea of India," is frequently used by Gandhi and has been central to his response to the BJP, which has argued that there are many "Ideas of India."
During the BJP's parliamentary party meeting, Prime Minister Modi criticized the opposition as directonless, stating that he had never seen such a situation.
BJP veteran Ravi Shankar Prasad quoted the Prime Minister as saying that simply using the name India does not hold any significance, as it encompasses various entities like the Indian National Congress, East India Company, Indian Mujahideen, and Popular Front of India.
The Prime Minister's comment and Mr Gandhi's response came amidst a deadlock in Parliament regarding the unrest in Manipur.
