The Health Ministry on Monday (1 March) clarified that the registration to book Covid-19 vaccination appointments can only be done via the CoWIN Web Portal. Here is a link for the same.

Citizens can go to www.cowin.gov.in to register themselves or via the Aarogya Setu app, which has CoWIN app integration. The availability of slots nearby to get vaccinated is subject to availability.

A user guide to help citizens register and book their appointment has been uploaded on the websites of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the National Health Authority (NHA).

As reported by ANI, the CoWIN app available in the app stores is only meant for administrators and not the general public.

This clarification comes after confusion among the general public over Covid-19 vaccine registration. Many attempted login via the CoWIN app via using the forgot password route which resulted in no OTP being sent on their mobile phones.

A low rating of 2.1 starts is believed to be a result of the same.

In the self registration CoWIN web portal, one needs to enter his or her mobile phone and an OTP will be sent. The beneficiary needs to provide details like full name, year of birth and the number of a government issued id card like Aadhaar, Passport etc.

One person can add four more people linked to the mobile number entered before. One can click on the ‘Add button’ and enter the details of other individuals to register for them as well. A separate registration is not required for them.

People age between 45 years to 60 years will need to carry a medical certificate when they go for the appointment. They then then proceed to book an inoculation appointment at their nearest government or private centre.

In front of the registered names’ account details, a column named “Action” can be found. Below it, one can click on the calendar icon to schedule an appointment. Next, “Book Appointment for Vaccination” page will open. Now, one can enter details like State/UT, District, Block and Pincode.

Once all these details are entered, click on the “Search” button to find a list of vaccination centres near you. One can pick from the choices of slots and dates available, even from the next week and then click on the “Book” option.

An “Appointment Confirmation” page will then open showing the details of the booking. You can either click on “Confirm” if the information is correct or click on “Back” to make some changes.

Once appointment is confirmed, one can also reschedule appointment due to some unforeseen circumstances by logging in with mobile number, enter OTP and make the changes by clicking on the edit icon below the ‘Action’ column.

The CoWIN web portal is currently experiencing high load due to a big spurt in registrations which started from 9 AM today and will be open till 3 PM every day.

All senior citizens aged above 60 and those aged above 45 with comorbidities are eligible for the vaccine.
