Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav revealed the party's manifesto on Wednesday (10 April), outlining significant promises including a caste-based census by 2025.

The manifesto launch, termed 'People's Demand Letter, Our Rights', took place at the SP headquarters in Lucknow, with top party leaders in attendance.

“We are going among the public with this vision document and we hope that the public will support the socialists and the alliance and with the historic victory in Uttar Pradesh , the India alliance will win the maximum number of seats," Yadav said.

Akhilesh Yadav also emphasised the party's commitment to discontinuing the Agnipath scheme and instead advocated for regular recruitment in the armed forces.

Other promises include restoring the old pension scheme, providing a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers, waiving off agricultural loans for farmers, offering free irrigation facilities, and establishing a Farmers Commission.

Additionally, the SP pledges to provide a pension of Rs 5,000 per month to landless small and marginal farmers, ensure 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and Assemblies within two years, and implement the same reservation percentage for women in government jobs.

Notably, the SP has joined forces with the Congress party under the banner of the opposition INDI bloc.

With the alliance, the SP is contesting on 63 seats, while the Congress has been allocated 17 Lok Sabha seats.
