SC Declines Urgent Plea Against Allahabad HC Order On "Adipurush" Movie

The Supreme Court declined to address an urgent plea against an order from the Allahabad High Court, which had instructed the creators of the controversial film "Adipurush" to appear before it on July 27.
"Adipurush", a modern retelling of the Hindu epic Ramayana, has faced criticism for its dialogue and use of colloquial language.
Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, leading the bench, requested the counsel representing the movie makers to bring up the matter on Thursday.
On June 30, the Allahabad HC had directed the movie makers to attend a hearing on July 27. Additionally, it instructed the central government to establish a committee to provide its perspective on the film.
Earlier, Kuldeep Tiwari and Naveen Dhawan had filed separate petitions seeking a ban on the movie in the HC.
On July 27, the high court summoned director Om Raut, producer Bhushan Kumar, and dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir to appear before it. Additionally, the court instructed the central government to form a five-member committee to assess whether the film had offended the public's sentiments.
The court also ordered the government to review its decision to grant a certificate to the movie.
To ensure compliance with certification guidelines, the high court requested the secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to submit personal affidavits detailing whether the film's certification process adhered to the guidelines.
