CPI(M) releases manifesto
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] released its manifesto on Thursday (4 April) promising to scrape the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), which was recently notified.
CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury along and Polit Bureau members Prakash Karat, Tapan Sen, Brinda Karat and Nilotpal Basu released the manifesto for Lok Sabha elections.
The CPI(M) said that it adheres to the principle that religion is separated from politics and hence will fight for a law against hate speech and crimes and is committed to scrapping the CAA.
It also promised to scrap "draconian laws" like the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), along with revisiting and reversing the privatisation of the public sector.
The CPI(M) plans to impose a tax on the super-rich along with a general wealth tax and an inheritance tax. It promises a legal guarantee of MSP according to the Swaminathan Commission recommendations.
It commits to include 'Right to Work' as a constitutional right. It commits to stopping the privatisation of Higher Education and increasing budgetary allocations for education to at least 6 per cent of GDP.
The CPI(M) also promises a law for reservations in the private sector and one-third of reservations for women. It asserts that it is necessary to conduct a caste census along with the 2021 general census which is overdue.
The Left party seeks a ban on corporate donations to political parties and promises immediate Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and restoration of full statehood.
