In a recent development, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has issued a recall for Everest's Fish Curry Masala, imported from India, due to concerns over the presence of ethylene oxide pesticide exceeding permissible limits.

As per reports by Indian Express, the decision follows an investigation prompted by a notification from the Centre for Food Safety in Hong Kong, which flagged the elevated levels of ethylene oxide in the product.

In response to the notification, the SFA directed the importer, Sp Muthiah & Sons Pvt Ltd, to initiate a recall of the affected products.

While the recall process is underway, Everest, a popular spice maker, has yet to respond to the recall notice.

Ethylene oxide, unauthorized for use in food, is commonly employed in agricultural settings to prevent microbial contamination.

However, Singapore's food regulations permit its use in spice sterilization.

Despite assurances from the SFA that immediate risk to consumers from low levels of ethylene oxide is minimal, the agency mentioned the importance of minimizing exposure due to potential long-term health implications.

"Those who have consumed the implicated products and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice. Consumers may contact their point of purchase for enquiries,” the directive added.
