Suspension Of All 146 Opposition MPs Revoked Ahead Of Budget Session: Here's All You Need To Know

In the run up to the Budget Session of Parliament starting tomorrow (31 January) the suspension of 11 Rajya Sabha MPs has been lifted.
Last month, a total of 146 MPs, spanning both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, were suspended during the Winter Session for staging protests, urging Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the security breach in Parliament.
Of these, 132 MPs had their suspension revoked after the session concluded, while the cases of the remaining 14 MPs, including 11 from Rajya Sabha and 3 from Lok Sabha, were referred to the privileges committees of both Houses.
The Lok Sabha Privileges Committee had previously lifted the suspension of 3 Lok Sabha MPs on 12 January.
The revocation of suspension for the remaining 11 Rajya Sabha MPs was carried out today (30 January).
The Opposition had earlier accused the government of using the suspension tactic to push through key bills without discussion, following the disruption caused by their demands for a debate on the Parliament breach.
During the Winter Session, chaotic scenes unfolded in the Lok Sabha chamber when intruders jumped from desk to desk, deploying colored smoke canisters.
In response to the Opposition's demand for a statement from the Home Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had maintained that the security within the House falls under the secretariat's jurisdiction, and the government would not be allowed to intervene.
With the Budget Session on the horizon, the Narendra Modi government is gearing up to present its interim budget on Thursday (1 February), with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stating earlier that it won't include major announcements.
The session will also include discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, a general debate on the budget, and Prime Minister’s replies in both Houses.
