News Brief
Ex AIADMK minister Vijayabaskar
In a latest development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently initiated searches at locations associated with former AIADMK minister Vijayabaskar in Tamil Nadu's Pudukkottai district.
The raids stem from documents uncovered during the Income Tax Department's searches last April and are currently underway at Vijayabaskar's residence in Pudukkottai.
In parallel, the ED conducted searches at sites linked to the prominent real estate firm G-Square in Chennai.
Raids are in progress at over 20 locations across the city, including key areas such as Mylapore, Alwarpet, and Anna Nagar.
Additionally, Income Tax officials are conducting simultaneous raids at more than 10 places, including an IT company in Taramani and the office of Vels University in Nandanam, Chennai.

G-Square, allegedly considered close to the ruling DMK, has come under the ED's lens due to its financial activities.
Earlier reports suggest that the company operated at a loss from 2017 to 2020 but witnessed a significant surge in assets in the subsequent years following the DMK's rise to power.
The Income Tax Department had previously raided the company and seized crucial documents during a sweep conducted six months ago.
The raids had come a week after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai released ‘DMK Files' in which he provided details of vast properties owned by the DMK first family, Ministers, MLAs and MPs.
He pointed out that the revenue of the realtor company G Square witnessed a staggering increase since 2019, because of its proximity with Tamil Nadu’s ruling party.
