Tihar Jail Superintendent Issued Notice For Moving Inmates To Satyendar Jain's Cell On Former Delhi Minister's Request

Delhi Tihar prison superintendent has been issued a show cause notice for transferring two inmates to the cell of former AAP minister Satyendar Jain.

Satyendar Jain, who was arrested last year in a corruption case and is lodged in the high-security prison, sent a letter on 11 May imploring the prison administration to lodge him with more inmates.

In his letter, Jain cited depression and doctor’s advice for more social interactions.

"I am feeling depressed and low because of loneliness. A psychiatrist suggested me for more social interactions and he requested to lodge him with at least two more persons," Jain wrote in the letter, reports NDTV.

He also provided two persons' names in the letter.

Two prisoners were moved to Jain’s cell by the superintendent of jail number 7.

Inmates were shifted back to their cells promptly after the Jail administration came to know about, prison official were cited in the report as saying.

"Action has been initiated against the Superintendent of Jail No 7 for transferring two prisoners to the cell of former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain who requested to lodge him with at least two inmates citing depression and need for more social interactions. Inmates were immediately transferred back," an official was quoted by NDTV as saying.

Earlier last year, a prison official was suspended for allegedly providing VIP treatment to Jain.

Last year on 30 May, the Enforcement Directorate arrested the ex-minister under a money-laundering investigation initiated by the probe agency after the CBI filed a FIR on 24 August 2017.
