News Brief
PM Modi (L), EV Velu (R)
In his reply to the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (10 August) criticised the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) whose minister EV Velu had recently said "India is some place in north India" and advocated a separate Dravida Nadu.
Modi said, " Let our DMK brothers listen. Let people of the Congress listen. UPA thinks that by using the name of the country they can increase the faith in them but a minister in the Tamil Nadu government belonging to the alliance partner of the Congress just two days back said that India has no importance for him. According to him, Tamil Nadu is not in Bharat.
"Today I want to say with pride that Tamil Nadu is that state from which streams of patriotism have emanated. It is unfortunate that such kind of a speech is coming from a state which has given us Rajaji, Kamaraj, MGR, Abdul Kalam."
Yesterday, Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani had asked the Congress to strongly condemn the remarks made by Velu.
