In a major sign of return of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, post abrogation of Article 370, the ride-hailing platform Uber commenced operations in Jammu and Kashmir according to a report from The Hindu.
On Tuesday (30 January), Uber commenced operations in Jammu and Kashmir, initiating services in Srinagar as its first city.
It has introduced UberGo and Uber Intercity in the valley, with Intercity rides available to destinations like Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Pahalgam.
This move is also poised to give tourism a boost in the region and making travel for more easier and efficient for domestic, as well as international tourists.
In a press statement, Uber expressed its commitment to providing convenient, affordable, and safe mobility options to riders throughout the country.
Shiva Shailendran, Head of Supply and Regional Operations at Uber stated, “The launch of our operations in Srinagar marks our presence in the popular tourism hub of Jammu and Kashmir, and we are excited to serve the riders in one of India’s all-time favourite travel destinations."
He further added, "With the global ride-hailing app now available in Srinagar, tourists as well as locals will now find a trusted ride in and around Srinagar with a few taps on the app.”
