"Unite Against Terrorism": Ghulam Nabi Azad Urges Political Parties After Killing Of Retired Police Officer In J&K’s Baramulla

In response to the tragic killing of retired senior police officer Mohd Shafi in Baramulla, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has strongly condemned the incident, urging all political parties to unite against terrorism.

As reported by The Times Of India, Azad, who is also the founder-chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, emphasised the critical importance of political unity, suggesting that differences should be set aside to collectively combat terrorism in the union territory.

Azad's call for unity comes as unidentified terrorists targeted and fatally shot Mohd Shafi while he was offering prayers at a mosque in Gantmulla, Baramulla.

This incident marks a resurgence of targeted killings after a period of relative calm in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, National Conference patriarch and Member of Parliament Farooq Abdullah expressed his view that terrorism cannot be eradicated solely through security force operations.

He urged the central government to recognise the need for alternative strategies to effectively address and eliminate terrorism.

The mourning and shock over Shafi's demise were palpable, as described by Abdulkareem Mir, Shafi's younger brother.

Mir recounted that Shafi, a retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) who had served until 2012, was a regular attendee at the mosque for the Aazan.

The sudden interruption in Shafi's call for Aazan initially led to the belief that the microphone had malfunctioned, but it was later discovered that he had been fatally shot by terrorists.
