Arrested Satyendra Siwal

A Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent was arrested in Meerut by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (UP ATS) for passing on crucial information about Indian defence establishments to the neighbouring country.

Arrested Satyendra Siwal is a native of Hapur in UP and worked as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) at the Ministry of External Affairs. He was operating as a spy at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, where he was posted since 2021.

Acting on a tip-off, the UP ATS questioned Siwal, to which he gave unsatisfactory responses. Later he accepted being a spy and was subsequently arrested.

According to India Today, Siwal revealed during interrogation that he used money to lure Indian government officials into giving information about the Indian Army and its day-to-day functioning.

Siwal is also accused of passing on crucial and confidential information about the Indian Embassy, Ministry of Defence, and External Affairs to ISI handlers using his position for the greed of money.

According to UP ATS, this was "strategically important information related to the Indian Army that is likely to pose a huge threat to the internal and external security of India."
