Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat reportedly left for Delhi earlier today (8 March) amid speculations on a change in leadership which first made headlines last week.

Last week, national vice president Raman Singh and state party in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam met a group of MLAs and MPs in Dehradun. The core group meeting happened amid rumours of a change in state leadership.

An urgent meeting of the BJP core committee took place in Dehradun on 6 March (Saturday) in the middle of the ongoing budget session in Gairsain.

Rumours of "major changes in the government" made the MLAs return to Dehradun. Sections of the media indicated the possibility of replacement “at the highest level”.

Rawat was scheduled to attend several programmes in Gairsain and Dehradun on 8 March (today).

Uttarakhand BJP chief Bansidhar Bhagat has reportedly said that "there was no leadership change likely in the state and Saturday's meeting discussed events to mark the completion of the Rawat-led government's four years in office."
