West Bengal Teachers' Recruitment Scam: ED Raids Builder To Find If Jailed TMC Leader Used His Business For Money Laundering

The Enforcement Directorate raided six locations in West Bengal on Friday (16 February) in the teachers' recruitment scam, of which four are of a builder close to jailed Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Partha Chatterjee.
The raids were at builder Rajiv Dey's office and his three flats in the Bansdroni and Ballygunge areas of Kolkata. One of the Dey's raided houses is near Chatterjee's residence.
According to Indian Express sources, these raids aim to find out if Dey’s construction business used to launder the money gained from the teacher recruitment scam.
The ED has found several documents and bank details from these raids that show that Chatterjee took Dey's assistance to invest his money, which he received through the teacher recruitment scam.
Chatterjee was a minister in the Mamata Banerjee Cabinet with various portfolios but was relieved from his responsibilities after his arrest in the scam on 23 July 2022.
The central agency had also arrested Chatterjee’s close associate Arpita Mukherjee, and seized Rs 21 crore in cash and jewellery worth above Rs 1 crore from her houses in different parts of Kolkata.
