News Brief
Tweet by Congress party’s account
In what seemed like a regular tweet by a news professional to a politician, Aaj Tak news anchor Anjana Om Kashyap tagged Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Bagdel in a tweet on Saturday (11 July), reminding him of his promise of liquor ban in the state.
“The song ‘Waada tera waada’ is totally a theme song of Indian politics. How can Bhupesh Baghel be any different?” the anchor tweeted in Hindi.
However, in what seemed like an unexpected reaction, the verified handle of Congress party in Chattisgarh quote-tweeted Kashyap saying that ‘Naanch meri Bulbul tujhe paisa milega‘ is totally a theme song for partisanship that passes for journalism today.
The tweet referred to journalists as dancers who perform for money.
The post drew heavy backlash from Twitter users who called it indecent, shameful and unfortunate.
After many users tagged national women commision chief Rekha Sharma in their comments, Sharma responded saying the tweet by Congress party was condemnable.
“Why it so easy to call names to a women when she is not doing what you expect from her? The language of the tweet is highly condemnable and people concerned must regret it. Not expected from a party which is headed by a woman,” Sharma tweeted.
Kashyap too expressed her objection to the tweet:
