In a significant blow to Union Minister and RLJP Chief Pashupati Kumar Paras, Vaishali MP Veena Devi has defected from his faction to join the Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

Veena Devi, a prominent member of the five LJP MPs who split from Paras, was observed standing alongside Chirag during the party's foundation day event in Patna on Tuesday (28 November).

Expressing her allegiance to Chirag Paswan, Veena Devi stated, "I am with Chirag Paswan. How can I forget Ram Vilas Paswan ji, who gave me the ticket and brought me to this position? We are with his son."

Addressing the media, Veena emphasiwed her longstanding association with the late Ram Vilas Paswan, stating that the events of 2021, referring to the split within the LJP after Paswan's demise, were an "accident." She noted that both factions were not fundamentally distinct, as it was Ram Vilas Paswan who had founded the original party.

Veena Devi gained prominence after defeating heavyweight RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh on his home turf of Vaishali in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. She is the wife of JD(U) leader Dinesh Prasad Singh.

According to Jagran, after Veena Devi, two more MPs, a dozen district presidents and state officials, and senior leaders may part ways with Paras ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Reportedly, such leaders are in contact with parties like RJD, JDU, BJP, and Congress or may join Chirag's faction. Several leaders have already distanced themselves from Paras' programs.
