The controversy over 'cash-for-query' allegations against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra seems to be escalating.
A latest media report has claimed that Moitra's Parliament ID was not only used from Dubai but also from two other separate locations, one of which is situated in the United States.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra's Parliament login ID was not just accessed from Dubai, but also from New Jersey, United States, and Bengaluru, India Today reported citing sources from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Apart from Dubai, her login credentials were reportedly used from New Jersey and Bengaluru as well when the TMC MP was in Kolkata and then in Delhi on the same day.
Moitra found herself under scrutiny when BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused her of accepting "bribes" from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions targeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in Parliament.
Furthermore, he alleged that the cash-for-query row involving Moitra was a huge conspiracy.
Dubey stated that Mahua Moitra didn't just give login credentials to Darshan Hiranandani alone.
The account was "logged in from multiple places—Delhi, Bengaluru, and San Francisco. This is a big conspiracy…” Dubey was quoted as saying by ANI.
The Ethics Panel of Lok Sabha, which investigated the allegations leveled against her, has recommended the expulsion of the TMC MP.
Earlier, Moitra admitted to sharing her official login details with Hiranandani, the CEO of the real estate and infrastructure company Hiranandani Group, to have someone from his office type in the questions to be asked in Lok Sabha.
Moitra’s statement had come after Hiranandani’s “sworn affidavit” that claimed the TMC MP shared her official login credentials him, so he could “post” questions on her behalf.
The ethics panel, headed by Chairman Vinod Kumar Sonkar, submitted its report on the allegations against Moitra to Speaker Om Birla's office earlier this month.
However, the TMC MP has refuted the allegations against her, calling them "defamatory, false, baseless, and not supported by even a shred of evidence".
