The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday (27 September) issued instructions for a CBI investigation into allegations surrounding the refurbishment of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence.

Subsequently, the investigative agency initiated a Preliminary Enquiry (PE) into the matter, India Today reported.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has mandated the Public Works Department (PWD) under the Delhi government to submit all relevant documents by 3 October.

This central investigative body will delve into all facets of the purported irregularities, brought to light following an inquiry conducted by the Chief Secretary of Delhi.

The decision to conduct this inquiry stems from a five-page letter authored by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and addressed to the CBI Director in May.

Furthermore, the Home Ministry has authorized a special audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in connection with this issue.

From 2020-2022, Delhi government paid approximately Rs 44.78 crore for renovating the official residence Kejriwal.

The expenditure included imported marble, luxurious interiors, high-end kitchen equipment, and electrical fixtures.
