For the first time ever, Delhi police have caught a gangster outside India.

One of Delhi's most-wanted gangsters, Deepak Pahal, or Deepak "Boxer," was arrested in Mexico on Monday (3 April) by Delhi Police's Special Cell, with help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Pahal was missing since September last year. He was serving his sentence after he was arrested in a case, received parole, and did not return, according to police, as reported by the Indian Express.

Turns out, he had fled the country on a fake passport for the United States, from where he went to Mexico. He was then arrested there, a senior police officer said.

He will be brought to India later this week.

Pahal is said to be behind the murder of Amit Gupta, a realtor from North Delhi.

Gupta, aged 48, was shot multiple times last August in the Civil Lines neighbourhood.

Along with an attacker, two jailed members of the infamous "Gogi gang" were apprehended for the murder.

The police found that the Gogi gang and Pahal plotted Gupta's murder in revenge, believing he had ties with the rival Tillu Tajpuria gang.

According to police, Pahal is a repeat offender with a criminal record that includes multiple cases of murder, robbery, and extortion.

In 2021, he and his accomplices reportedly used chilli powder to free gangster Kuldeep Mann from police custody.

Mann, known as Fajja, was later killed in a police encounter in West Delhi.

Pahal, a former boxer, competed in state and national championships before discontinuing the sport, as per the police.
