Karnataka Now Has The World's Longest Railway Platform At Hubballi
Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Station, Hubballi.
Scaling the lengths of infrastructural feats, Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Station at Hubballi in Dharwad district of Karnataka now boasts the longest railway platform of the world.
The newly built platform was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12 March 2023 during his visit to Hubballi-Dharwad.
The 1,507 metre long platform at Hubballi station of South Western Railway Zone has been built at a cost of about Rs 20.1 crore.
According to Indian Railways, this record of being the longest platform in the world, has also been registered and recognised by the Guinness World Records recently.
The second-longest platform is in Gorakhpur city in Uttar Pradesh measuring 1,366.33 metres. Meanwhile, the third-longest platform is at Kollam Junction in Kerala measuring 1,180.5 metres.
Prime Minister Modi expressed delight on the occasion and underlined that it is not just any record or extension of a platform but it is forwarding the thinking which gives priority to infrastructure development.
Hubballi Station
The Hubballi station is an important junction in Karnataka and a major hub of trade and commerce.
It connects the railway lines towards Bengaluru (Davanagere side), Hosapete (Gadag side), and Vasco-Da-Gama/Belagavi (Londa side).
The longest railway platform construction was part of a remodeling project of the railway yard at Hubballi Railway Station for better operational efficiency, train operations safety and better passenger amenities and comfort.
The longer platform will help cater to future transportation needs of the city and will enable the dispatch or reception of two trains simultaneously.
