An FIR has been filed by the Thiruvananthapuram Police against the makers of the film, The Kerala Story.

The FIR was filed after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed Anil Kant, the Director General of Police to do so.

The film, directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Shah, deals with the subject of conversion of thousands of Hindu and Christian women to Islam in Kerala and coastal Karnataka. These women land up in ISIS war zones of Syria, Iraq and Haqqani-controlled areas in Afghanistan.

In the teaser of the movie released recently, it is said that there were 32,000 such women.

This comes after a journalist from Tamil Nadu, B R Arvindakshan, wrote to Prasoon Joshi, the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, and Chief Minister Vijayan, asking them to ban the movie unless the makers provided sufficient evidence.

Arvindakshan argued that the movie spoils the image of Kerala and is against the unity and integrity of the country.

The makers have been charged under sections 153 A &B (promoting disharmony and enmity between different groups based on the ground of faith).

K Surendran, the state president of the Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), condemned the action and tweeted "The Kerala govt which has failed to tackle Islamic fundamentalism, love jihad and people joining ISIS has ordered that an FIR be filed against the makers of movie 'The Kerala Story'. Mr @pinarayivijayan should have the guts to act against the ISIS recruiters in Kerala instead."
