Kerala: 'Shahrukh Saifi Influenced By Zakir Naik' Says Head Of Special Investigation Team Probing Kozhikode Train Fire Incident

MR Ajithkumar, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), and the head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Kozhikode train arson incident has said the the accused Shahrukh Saifi is highly influenced by radical Islamic preachers like Zakir Naik and Israr Ahmed.
Saifi was arrested from Ratnagiri by the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) for throwing an inflammable liquid at passengers aboard a train near Kozhikode.
While nine people had sustained burn injuries, three bodies were discovered on the railway tracks. It is believed that they had jumped off the train in order to save themselves.
The SIT has invoked the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Saifi was charged with murder under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the police, while the suspect Saifi has not revealed much during the interrogation, a study of his call logs, browsing history and social media activity has made them find that some of his contacts were already under the radar of the ATS of various states.
