Akbaruddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and brother of party president Asaduddin Owaisi, on Tuesday (21 November) openly threatened a police officer who had requested adherence to the model code of conduct in light of the Telangana assembly elections.

According to the Hindustan Times, the police inspector had intervened during Owaisi's campaign speech in Hyderabad's Lalitabagh, where he exceeded the allotted time. Responding defiantly, Owaisi asked the police officer to back off.

He stated, "Do you think that after facing knives and bullets, I got weak? Still, there's a lot of courage in me. I'll address for five more minutes. Koi mai ka laal paida nahi hua mujhe rokne ke liye (no one can stop me). If I give a signal, then you'll have to run. Shall we make him run? This is what I'm saying—they come like this to weaken us."

Akbaruddin Owaisi is a candidate from the Chandrayangutta constituency, considered an AIMIM stronghold. The party has consistently won from this constituency in the last two assembly elections.

Notably, Akbaruddin Owaisi had come into controversy earlier too for his 'remove police' remarks. He had said that Muslims will show Hindus their place if the police was removed for 15 minutes.

Telangana is scheduled to go to polls in a single phase on 30 November, with the counting of votes, along with those from four other poll-bound states, set for 3 December.
