Madhya Pradesh Notifies 35% Reservation For Women In Govt Jobs, CM Chouhan Expedites 'Ladli Behna' Amount Transfer

The Madhya Pradesh government has officially mandated a 35 per cent reservation for women in recruitment, excluding the forest department, through an amendment to the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Special Provision for Appointment of Women) Rules, 1997.
The notification, issued on Wednesday (4 October), specifies that this reservation will apply horizontally and compartment-wise to all posts in the state service, except those in the Forest Department.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, making the announcement during an event in Burhanpur district, also declared that 35 per cent of vacancies in police and other government jobs will be exclusively filled by women. Furthermore, the government plans to reserve 50 per cent of teaching positions for women.
Chouhan expedited the transfer of financial assistance to beneficiaries under the "Ladli Bahna Yojana," the state government's flagship welfare scheme for women. Under this scheme, beneficiaries receive Rs 1,250 per month.
Chouhan explained that the early transfer was to avoid any conflict with the model code of conduct, as assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh are anticipated to be announced soon.
These initiatives, especially the focus on women's representation, are viewed as significant outreach efforts by the ruling BJP government, particularly given the increasing influence of women voters in recent times. The assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh are expected to take place by the end of the year.
