Congress's veteran leader and former Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Sriniwas Tiwari's grandson, Siddharth Tiwari and former MLA Fundar Lal Choudhary from Gunnour seat in Panna district joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (18 October).

Siddharth had sought a ticket from the Teonthar assembly seat, which his grandfather represented twice in 1977 and 1980. However, after being denied one, he opted to switch parties.

Referring to leaders Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh, he raised questions about why the Congress top command has entrusted leadership to "two 80-year-old men," Free Press Journal reported.

Commenting on the working style of the grand old party, he remarked, "For Congress, this election seems more like a deal where Rahul Gandhi has given the contract to veteran leader Kamal Nath."

When asked if the BJP had promised him a ticket, he stated that whatever responsibility was assigned to him, he would discharge it with great dedication.

In the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state president VD Sharma, the two leaders joined the party in Bhopal.

This is a big jolt to the Congress in the Vindhya region as both Gunnour and Teonthar fall in this region. Notably, the Vindhya region is already the BJP's stronghold.
