Odisha Train Accident: Rescue And Relief Operation Nears Completion Amid Ghastly Train Wreck

In a massive deployment of rescue and relief operation, 200 ambulances, 100 medical teams with paramedical staff, 45 Mobile Health Teams, 30 buses were pressed into service at the massive accident site in Balasore, Odisha.

There were also seven National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, five Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams and forensic medicine specialists being mobilised for the rescue and relief operations.

"The rescue operation has been completed, now we are starting the restoration work", said Railway Executive Director (Information and Publicity) Amitabh Sharma.

Sharma also clarified that Kavach was not available on this route. Kavach, the indigenous accident prevention system, is meant to apply automatic brakes on train movement in case two trains come from opposite directions.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited the site.
