Chirag Paswan, a Lok Sabha MP from Jamui and son of former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan visited Chennai today (6 March) amidst the row over alleged attacks on migrant workers from Bihar.

He interacted with migrant workers in the Pallavaram area of the city and assured them of all help. Paswan had earlier come down heavily on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav for ignoring the plight of workers.

During a press conference held after the interaction, he said that there must be an impartial probe so that the truth comes out. He added that while his party does not vouch for the authenticity of any video or photo, he had been visited by workers who returned from Tamil Nadu and they had told him that they were attacked.

Further, he said that creating a north versus south divide was against the unity and integrity of the nation.

After the press conference, he went to the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to Governor RN Ravi.

Earlier, a team of officials sent by the Bihar government, headed by Rural Development Secretary D Balamurugan said that they were satisfied with the measures taken by the administration after a visit to Tiruppur.

During the visit, they interacted with the workers and asked them not to fall prey to any fake video and contact the helpline numbers provided. They also spoke to Tamil Nadu government officials, labour contractors and representatives of trade and industry.

Former political strategist Prashant Kishor, who had worked with Chief Minister MK Stalin and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the 2021 Assembly elections, said that while it is true that fake videos were released by certain people, in a few days time, he would release real videos of Bihari workers being attacked.
