Tamil Nadu: DMK Government Brings Resolution In State Assembly Urging President To Prescribe Time Period To Governors For Giving Assent To Bills

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has brought a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly urging the central government and the President to prescribe a time frame for Governors to give assent to Bills passed by the State Assembly.
This comes after Governor RN Ravi's recent comments at an interaction with civil services aspirants in Raj Bhavan, saying that a Bill is dead if assent is withheld.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly recently passed the Bill banning online rummy once again after Governor Ravi had returned it for reconsideration.
This is not the first time that the DMK government is bringing a resolution targeted at the Governor.
After Governor Ravi skipped parts of his speech during the inaugural session of the Assembly in January 2023, Chief Minister MK Stalin had brought a resolution saying that only the prepared text of the Governor's speech would be taken on record.
P Wilson, a Rajya Sabha MP from the DMK had brought a private member's Bill last year, to amend Article 200 of the Constitution and prescribe a time limit of two months to Governors to give assent to Bills passed by the State Assembly.
