Law Minister S Regupathy has refuted the claims made by the Raj Bhavan in a press release by it yesterday (6 July), regarding the grant of sanction to prosecute four ministers of the previous All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government.

While the Raj Bhavan stated that the case of C Vijayabaskar and BV Ramanaa (who have been accused in the Gutka scam) is under legal examination, it stated that in the case of KC Veeramani, it had not received an authenticated copy of the investigation report from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC).

Regarding the case of MR Vijayabhaskar, it said that it had not received any communication from the government.

Veeramani and Vijayabhaskar have been accused of accumulating assets disproportionate to their known sources of wealth.

Regupathy said that all files related to Veeramani's case had been sent to the Raj Bhavan on 12 September 2022 and the files in the case of Vijayabhaskar were sent on 15 May. He added that the Raj Bhavan had acknowledged receipt.

The issue of sanction to prosecute these ministers was also brought up by Chief Minister MK Stalin in his response to Governor Ravi regarding the dismissal of Senthil Balaji.
