TN: NIA Raids 21 Locations In Case Related To Murder Of PMK Functionary Ramalingam Who Opposed Religious Conversions
National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided 21 locations across the state on 23 July in connection with the murder of Ramalingam, a Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) functionary in February 2019 by members of the now banned Popular Front of India (PFI).
He was brutally attacked by a gang of armed men who intercepted his car. He later succumed to his injuries.
According to PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, he was killed for opposing religious conversions at a village in Thanjavur district.
Among the locations searched were those of the five suspects, Mohammed Ali Jinna, Abdul Majith, Bhurkhanudeen, Shahul Hameed, Nafeel Hassan and Mubarak, the state president of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
The NIA has announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to the arrest of any one of the accused, who remain at large.
In August 2019, it filed a chargesheet against 18 people, of which a majority have been arrested.
