Violence In Manipur Today: After Police Officer's Killing, Commandos Sent As Reinforcement Ambushed, Two Injured

Shortly after the Manipur cabinet confirmed the tragic killing of sub-divisional police officer Chingtham Anand Kumar by suspected Kuki militants in Moreh, two other Manipur Police personnel sustained severe injuries in a militant assault on a reinforcement convoy en route to Moreh later in the afternoon.
A reliable security source of Times of India revealed that the ambush occurred at Sinam village in Tengnoupal district, approximately 49 kilometers from Moreh, around 3 pm.
According to NDTV, a contingent of Manipur Police commandos was dispatched to a border town as a reinforcement measure. This ambush transpired between Sinam and Saibol, approximately 10 kilometers away from Tengnoupal district.
The town of Moreh, a prominent India-Myanmar border trading hub where Senior Police Officer Chingtham Anand lost his life to an alleged insurgent sniper while supervising the helipad construction, is located at a distance of around 115 kilometers from the state's capital, Imphal.
In response to the situation, units from the Assam Rifles were promptly deployed to the site of the ambush, where they successfully rescued the injured police commandos. A number of them have since been transported to medical facilities for treatment.
The day commenced with an emergency cabinet meeting in Imphal, convened in response to the SDPO's assassination, which occurred while he was on duty inspecting a recently constructed helipad in Moreh and was shot in the abdomen.
The government issued a statement indicating that the cabinet acknowledged Kumar's unfortunate demise as a result of "unprovoked firing by armed Kuki militants."
As a gesture of condolence, the cabinet authorised compensation of Rs 50 lakh due to Kumar's "special duty in a special area." Furthermore, the cabinet approved the provision of suitable government employment to the deceased police officer's next of kin.
Additionally, the cabinet issued directives to initiate a joint operation in Moreh and the adjacent regions to apprehend the individuals responsible for the crime and commit to sustaining these efforts until the culprits are apprehended. It was noted that supplementary state forces had been dispatched from Imphal for this purpose.
