Winter Session Of Parliament Planned After Assembly Election Results, Bills On BNS, CEC Appointment Expected

The Winter Session of Parliament is scheduled to commence on 4 December and will run until 22 December, with a total of 15 sittings spread over 19 days.
Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, expressed anticipation for discussions on Legislative Business and other matters during the session.
The start of the Winter Session of Parliament, which typically takes place in November, has been postponed to December due to the ongoing elections, Hindustan Times reported.
The results of the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram will be announced on 3 December. Notably, this session will be the first to be held in the new Parliament building.
In September, a Special Parliament Session was held in which the proceedings shifted from the old building to the new one and the women's reservation bill was passed.
During the upcoming session, there are three important bills that are expected to be considered for replacing the IPC, CrPC, and the Evidence Act. Additionally, the bill concerning the appointment of the chief election commissioner and election commissioners may also be discussed.
Although introduced during the Monsoon session, the government did not push for its passage in the special session of Parliament due to opposition and protests from former chief election commissioners. The aim of this bill is to elevate the status of the CEC and ECs to that of the cabinet secretary, as they currently hold the same status as a Supreme Court judge.
