While speaking in Lok Sabha at the new parliament on Tuesday (19 September), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this session is going to register itself in India's history.

He pointed out how the Atal Bihar Vajpayee government was unable to pass the Women Reservation Bill due to a lack of numbers.

"Our government has taken a step in this direction. Union Cabinet approved the Women Reservation Bill," he informed the parliament expressing hope for more women contributions to policy-making.

Modi congratulated the women of the country for Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and requested all MPs to pass this bill unanimously.

He also highlighted how women benefitted from schemes like MUDRA loan and PM Awas Yojana and said that his government is committed to women-led development.

On a separate note, Modi said today is also a day to say "Michhami Dukkadam" (prevalent in Jain culture) and apologised to all for hurting anyone unintentionally. He thanked all engineers and labourers involved in the construction of the new building.

The PM informed parliament that a digital book has been kept in the building which has details of all the "shramiks" so that we keep remembering them. He also remembered Bal Gangadhar Tilak who popularised 'Ganesh Chaturthi' celebrations.

While mentioning Sengol, Modi remembered India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He said that connected to Tamil Nadu, the Sengol continues to inspire us.
