    Update: The second ship of Project 15B stealth guided missile destroyers was delivered to the Indian Navy today.

    • A total of four ships were planned to be built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) under a contract signed in 2011.

  • This Project is a follow-on of the Kolkata class (Project 15A) destroyers commissioned in the last decade.

  • The lead ship of the Project - INS Visakhapatnam has already been commissioned on 21 November 2021.


    • The ship had sailed out for her maiden sea sortie on 19 December 2021 and has now been delivered.

  • The destroyer is installed with major indigenous weapons like Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missiles, BrahMos, Indigenous Torpedo Tube Launchers, Anti-Submarine Indigenous Rocket Launchers and 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount.
