Update: The second ship of Project 15B stealth guided missile destroyers was delivered to the Indian Navy today.
A total of four ships were planned to be built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) under a contract signed in 2011.
This Project is a follow-on of the Kolkata class (Project 15A) destroyers commissioned in the last decade.
The lead ship of the Project - INS Visakhapatnam has already been commissioned on 21 November 2021.
The ship had sailed out for her maiden sea sortie on 19 December 2021 and has now been delivered.
The destroyer is installed with major indigenous weapons like Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missiles, BrahMos, Indigenous Torpedo Tube Launchers, Anti-Submarine Indigenous Rocket Launchers and 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount.
