Dear reader,
We sent Sharan Setty, our newly minted ground reporter, to Udupi. It has been a few months since the hijab agitation, and we wanted to get a sense of it.
Sharan has found girls intimidated by illiberal, socially regressive organisations. These are groups wanting to put Indian women on the path to a Taliban-style society.
Udupi, at large, wants to move onto progress and remain as mainstream as possible. That includes girls forced into hijab.
Unfortunately, Swarajya is the only media outlet that would invest to send staff here and cover the side of progress - of those fighting Talibanesque elements.
If you like the sort of ground reporting we do, please do take up a subscription.
It costs you only ₹100/month but you'd be paying to back the good fight. And to send Sharan to more places across India. He likes our assignments.
Also, our print magazines are back! Here's what you get when you become a print subscriber:
12 flagship monthly print issues
Uninterrupted access to our site and digital app for 12 months
A surprise Swarajya merchandise
Carefully crafted newsletters and a lot more
If you want more out of a Swarajya subscription, write us back - we're all ears.
