A Letter of Gratitude To Honourable Chief Minister

Honourable Chief Minister,

This letter is to express the heartfelt gratitude for not wishing Hindus on the occasion of Deepavali.

The basic decorum of being a Chief Minister asks the person on the post to rise above partisan feelings and sectarian biases that the political ideology to which one belongs may have. It takes a positive discriminatory power to understand the essentials and leave out the non-essentials of the ideology and extend greetings to the people without discrimination on a joyous national festival.

But clearly not all are endowed with that fundamental power of discrimination.

Nevertheless, it should give a sigh of relief to a self-respecting, culturally-rooted, historically conscious Hindu that you do not wish them on the occasion of Deepavali.

And hence this letter of gratitude.

You should be familiar with the Puranic reason as to why Deepavali is celebrated in southern India.

Narakasura was killed on this day.

Now, let us not start the pseudo-rational tantrums or Dravidianist racist interpretations. Puranic time is a sacred time, akin to the 'Dreamtime' of Australian aborigines. It would take another lifetime for pseudo-rationalists of the Dravidianist variety to understand that. So let us leave the tantrums, shall we?

Yes. Narakasura was killed on this day. Who was Narakasura? He was born of the contact between the Varaha Avatar of Maha Vishnu and Bhooma-Devi, the Divine Feminine essence of planet Earth.

At this point talking about the Gaia hypothesis may go beyond the wavelength receptivity of Dravidianist comprehension. So let us not talk about Gaia.

Narakasura plundered the worlds. He was arrogant. He captured women. He kept the women in the veil of imprisonment.

Sri Krishna was determined to liberate them. And in the war it was Satyabhama who killed Narakasura - Satyabhama who was considered in traditions as the manifestation of Mother Earth - Bhooma Devi.

In other words, even though Narakasura was their own son, he was liberated from his mortal body by Vishnu and Bhoomadevi.

A leader of the party that uses the sacrifices and toils of countless number of selfless cadre to promote a family is the least fit person to wish us on Deepavali. Had you wished us on Deepavali we would have been forced to accept it out of our typical Hindu magnanimity and also because of the respect due to your seat as Chief Minister. But it would have been a gross insult to the spirit and values of Deepavali.

Thank you Honourable Chief Minister for not putting us in such a predicament. Thank you Honourable Chief Minister for realising the sacredness of the festival which should not in any way be violated by people whose values cannot stand up to it.

Whether you are in power or not, please make sure that you never wish us Hindus on our festival occasions. Perhaps a day may come when your party will cleanse itself of dynasty subservience and then perhaps the person who heads your party may have the power to discriminate between essentials and non-essentials and then perhaps as a party with true self-respect and true rationalism the person who heads the party which the dynasty owns now, may wish us Deepavali.
