In the aftermath of a significant defeat in three crucial states, the Congress party faced criticism from the INDI Alliance bloc on Sunday (3 December), accusing the party of neglecting their interests during the assembly elections.
Describing the Congress's setback in the Hindi heartland as a 'lesson' for the 'secular democratic' forces, the Left parties emphasised the need to intensify efforts in uniting opposition parties.
Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D Raja asserted that unity is the key to overcoming the BJP, emphasising the importance of the Congress adopting an accommodative approach.
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury highlighted that the election results underscore the urgency for secular forces to redouble their efforts in safeguarding people's livelihoods and preserving the secular democratic nature of the Indian republic.
CPI Member of Parliament Binoy Biswam expressed the view that the outcome of the assembly elections would have been different if the Congress had honoured the 'spirit and politics' of the coalition.
Echoing concern over the Congress's conduct during the elections, National Conference vice-president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah remarked that if the situation within the INDIA bloc remains unchanged in the future, coalition members may face difficulties in surviving.
He added, "If the situation of the INDIA bloc remains the same in the future, as it has been in the state elections, perhaps, we will not be able to save ourselves. The Congress could not comprehend the ground situation in MP."
