Uttar Pradesh: After Inducting Imran Masood In Party, Mayawati Now Targets Yogi Government Over Madrassa Survey

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief, Mayawati, targeted the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh over its survey on unrecognised madrassas in the state.
On 31 August 2022, the UP government had ordered a survey of all unrecognised private madrassas operating in the state.
In the last few months, the BSP supremo seems to be repositioning herself among the Muslim voters in the state.
In her latest tweet, Mayawati said that the UP government has found 7,500 unrecognised madrassas in the state. According to her, if these madrassas are imparting education to poor children without any state assistance, then why does the government have an issue.
She further asked the government if they would include these unrecognised madrassas in the state list and provide them with facilities such as teacher's salary. She added that the former BSP government included 100 madrassas in the UP Board.
Mayawati had also opposed the ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI), a radical Islamic organisation, stating that the move was an act of political selfishness aimed at appeasing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Few days back, Mayawati welcomed Imran Masood to her party. Masood had quit Congress nine months back and joined Samajwadi Party, only to leave it too.
After joining the BSP, Mayawati appointed Masood as the coordinator for party’s western UP unit, ahead of urban body polls.
It is to be noted that Masood became infamous in 2014 for his "boti-boti" remark on the then BJP candidate for prime ministership, Narendra Modi. Back then, he was in Congress.
In the 2022 UP elections, BSP won only one seat out of the 403 seats it contested. The party lost more than 9 per cent of its vote share.
