The Andhra Pradesh government initiated a pilot caste census on 15 November and a comprehensive survey slated to begin on 21 November.

This experimental phase will unfold in three villages and two ward secretariats over two days, laying the groundwork for a more extensive endeavour.

Scheduled for November 17 and 24, the regional-level meetings in Rajahmundry, Kurnool, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati will further enrich the discourse on the caste-based census.

The planning includes three phases of training for the village/ward secretariat staff, who will serve as enumerators, as well as officials at the mandal, divisional, and district levels overseeing the survey.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's vision behind the caste census is grounded in the goal of empowering individuals across diverse castes.

This undertaking, highlighted by BC Welfare Minister Ch Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna, seeks to address the aspirations and challenges faced by 139 BC castes in the state.

By engaging with representatives from various caste associations, the government aims to glean insights into the living conditions and social issues affecting different communities, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive development.
