Assembly Polls 2022: Two Current And Five Former CMs Bite Dust

The results of assembly elections in five states was harsh for many political heavyweights. Two current and five former chief ministers lost the electoral battle from their seats.
Punjab's chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi stood as a candidate in two seats and could not win one of them. He was contesting from the seat of Bhadaur and Chamakaur Sahib. Uttarakhand's Pushkar Singh Dhami also lost couldn't manage to win the seat from which he contested.
The fate of former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Singh Rawat was the same. Punjab's former chief ministers Amarinder Singh and Prakash Singh Badal too lost the seats from which they contested.
Even though Dhami has lost the electoral battle, his party is heading for a victory in Uttarakhand.
In Punjab, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to sweep the polls, as many as three former chief ministers -- Badal, Singh and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal -- have lost the election from their respective pocket boroughs.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal has also lost the election to his AAP rival.
Most of the current and former ministers of the Punjab government have lost the poll battle to the AAP candidates.
In Goa, former chief minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) nominee Churchill Alemao lost the election from Benaulim to the AAP nominee.
The counting of votes for the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur Assembly polls is going on amid tight security arrangements.
