After controversial remarks on Ramcharit Manas and saints, Samajwadi Party national general secretary Swami Prasad Maurya has now again triggered a controversy over his remarks regarding Shri Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand.

Maurya had claimed that Badrinath was a Buddhist religious place till the eight century and the temple there was built after destroying the Buddhist shrine.

On Gyanvapi survey issue, the SP leader said not only Gyanvapi, but all the Hindu temples of the country should be investigated.

He claimed that most of the temples in the country were built by demolishing Buddhist shrines.

“The matter (Gyanvapi issue) is under consideration in the court, it will be not right to comment over it. But, if the survey is taking place, it should also be surveyed what was before the Hindu temple. I believe most of the present Hindu temples were Buddhist religious places like temples, monasteries or learning centres. They (Hindu temples) have been constructed after demolishing them,” Maurya was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

He even went on to claim that Shankaracharya built the Badrinath Dham and it was a Buddhist religious site prior to the construction of the temple.

The Badrinath Dham was built after destroying the Buddhist religious site, the controversial SP leader claimed, reports Dainik Bhaskar.

Maurya is known for giving controversial remarks. Earlier in January this year, he claimed objectionable language was used against backwards, Dalits and Adivasis in the Ramcharitmanas written by Tulsidas, leading to an uproar with Hindu Right-Wing organisations filing a police complaint against him.
