Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.
Arjun Ram Meghwal took over as the Union Law Minister on Thursday, replacing Kiren Rijiju.
"I want to thank the Prime Minister for his faith in me. The constitution teaches us everything we need to know. I will work according to that," Meghwal told NDTV.
Meghwal has dismissed the claims that the change in leadership was prompted by his predecessor's tumultuous relationship with the judiciary.
He also denied any connection between his appointment and the upcoming election in his home state of Rajasthan.
"The executive and the judiciary have a cordial relationship, and it will stay cordial and constitutional. The boundaries are already there," Meghwal said, according to the report.
Rijiju, a prominent Minister and troubleshooter, has been moved to the Ministry of Earth Sciences, less than a year after being promoted to the Law Ministry with cabinet status.
The transition occurred during a period when the government and the Supreme Court have frequently held divergent views regarding the appointment of judges.
Rijiju thanked CJI DY Chandrachud and all judges in a note for his former ministry on Thursday.
Kiren Rijiju, a former Sports Minister and three-term MP from Arunachal Pradesh, was assigned Law Minister on 7 July 2021, succeeding Ravi Shankar Prasad.
