The Punjab Congress is proceeding with caution regarding Navjot Singh Sidhu's political role, but the party plans to use him against the BJP in the Karnataka Assembly elections.
The ex-cricketer, after being freed from the Patiala jail, allegedly accused BJP and AAP of defaming Punjabis and plotting to enforce the President's rule in the state.
Raja Warring, PPCC chief, anticipates Sidhu's return to politics and his inclusion in the political affairs committee.
"I am looking forward to meeting Sidhu as soon as he returns to public life. He will be part of the political affairs committee," said Warring.
In the upcoming days, it is expected that Sidhu will have meetings with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi. It has been reported that a representative of the party leadership has convinced Sidhu in recognising a common factor between Rahul's disqualification as a Member of Parliament and his ten-month imprisonment.
Today, senior party leaders from Punjab will join Rahul in a Surat court where he will be submitting an appeal against his conviction. The role of Sidhu in the party is anticipated to be a topic of discussion during this meeting.
Earlier this year, the political party sent an invitation to his wife Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu for Bharat Jodo Yatra's Punjab leg. The party is working towards bringing Sidhu and other state leaders on the same page before the Jalandhar Lok Sabha byelection.
