The Delhi Police has denied permission for two religious gatherings in the Jahangirpuri and Netaji Subhash Place areas, citing law and order concerns.

According to an official order issued on Monday by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, HQ, Northwest district, the permission was denied for the 'Shree Ram Bhagwan Pratima Yatra' on the occasion of Ramnavami and for praying at a park during Ramadan.

The decision came as earlier last year, clashes broke out between two groups from different communities during a procession taken out to mark Hanuman Jayanti in the Jahangirpuri area.

Eight police personnel and a civilian were injured in the clashes

"I am directed to inform you that your request for Shree Ram Bhagwan Pratima Yatra on the occasion of Ramnavami Mahotsav on Thursday has been considered by the competent authority but could not be acceded to from the law and order point of view," the order read, reports Deccan Herald.

A senior police official reportedly stated that there was no previous permission found in police records for the group's particular event.

"There was no previous permission as per police record found from the group on this particular event. The permission was not 'traditional'," the official was quoted as saying.

The official also clarified that the denial of permission was only for this particular event in the Jahangirpuri area and that traditional permissions were not affected.

The police also denied permission for another "group" to pray at a park in the Netaji Subhash Place area during Ramadan, citing that it was not a traditional event.

"Another permission was sought by a group for praying on Ramadan at a park in the Netaji Subhash Place area has also been denied as it was also not traditional," the official added.
