Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials are conducting a search at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

The search took place early in the morning at the Delhi house of the Rajya Sabha MP.

Following the arrest of Manish Sisodia, a former deputy chief minister in the AAP government in Delhi, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in February, Sanjay Singh has become the latest AAP leader to come under scrutiny of the central agencies in the liquor policy case.

The excise policy case is related to the liquor policy of 2021 implemented by the Delhi government, which was subsequently revoked.

In April, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also questioned for nearly nine hours in connection with the same case.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), liquor companies played a role in formulating the excise policy, which would have resulted in a 12 percent profit for these companies.

The agency has alleged that a liquor lobby, referred to as the "South Group," paid kickbacks in order to secure the policy.

The CBI further claimed that out of the proposed 12 percent profit, six percent was funneled to public servants through intermediaries.

The alleged laundering of kickbacks is currently being investigated by the ED.

Following the scrapping of the policy, the Delhi government was accused by the BJP of reverting to the old liquor policy in an attempt to conceal corruption.
