India's Economy Among 'Fragile Five' Under UPA, Fastest Growing Under Modi: FM Sitharaman Replies To No-Confidence Motion

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday (10 August) said that India is now the fastest growing economy in the world due to the efforts of Modi government.
Taking jibe at the previous UPA government during the debate on the No-Confidence Motion moved by the Opposition, the Finance Minister said that India was among the 'fragile five' economies of the world during the previous regime in 2013.
"In 2013, Morgan Stanley had included India in the list of five fragile economies of the world. India was declared a fragile economy. Today, the same Morgan Stanley upgraded India and gave it a higher rating. In just 9 years, the economy rose and saw economic development due to the policies of our govt - despite COVID. Today, we are the fastest growing economy of the world," she said, reports Times of India.
She said that the Modi government is bringing down the poverty but earlier during the erstwhile UPA regime, there were just 'Garibi hatao' solgans.
Sitharaman also slammed the UPA regime for not executing the projects that were announced.
"Earlier they used to say airports will be built, highways will be built, ports will be built, today it has been built. Changes took place by actual delivery, we believe in empowering all and appeasement of none," the Finance Minister said.
She said that the global economy is struggling due to inflation but "India is doing well".
