The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party has issued a pledge letter ahead of the MCD polls, promising to provide EWS flats to every slum dweller in the city.

The 'Wachan Patra' (pledge letter) carried the pictures of flats allotted recently in Kalkaji for rehabilitating slum dwellers under the ‘In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project.’

Polling for the municipal elections in Delhi will be held on 4 December and votes will be counted on 7 December.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had handed over keys of the EWS flats to the beneficiaries of Bhoomiheen Camp slum in a function held at Vigyan Bhawan on 2 November.

The 3,024 flats were built by the Delhi Development Authority.

The BJP had also arranged tours for slum dwellers from different parts of the city to see the flats at Kalkaji for economically weaker section (EWS) category.

The 'Wachan Patra' was released by Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta, MP Manoj Tiwari and MCD poll management committee head Ashish Sood.

Kejriwal government has never tried to improve the living condition of the slum dwellers but PM Modi has proved his concern for the poor by providing good quality flats to them with all amenities, Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said.

'The BJP is committed to provide such good quality flats as were built in Kalkaji to all the slum dwellers as per Jahan Jhuggi Wahin Makan scheme,' he said.

Tiwari said the BJP will distribute the 'Wachan Patra' to people living in the slums.

The 'Wachan Patra' has a form which they will fill and the BJP workers will submit them to the departments concerned and the slum dwellers will get houses, the Lok Sabha member from the Northeast Delhi said.

Slum Rehabilitation In Delhi

The objective of in-situ slum rehabilitation in 376 Jhuggi Jhopri clusters is to provide a better and healthy living environment to the residents of slum clusters, with proper amenities and facilities.

DDA has undertaken three such projects at Kalkaji Extension, Jailorwala Bagh and Kathputli Colony.

Under the Kalkaji extension project, in-situ Slum Rehabilitation of three slum clusters namely Bhoomiheen Camp, Navjeevan camp and Jawahar camp located at Kalkaji is being taken up in a phased manner.

Under Phase-I, 3,024 flats at the nearby vacant commercial centre site have been constructed and the eligible households of Bhoomiheen camp were rehabilitated to the newly constructed flats.

Under Phase-II, the vacated Bhoomiheen Camp site will be utilised for rehabilitating slum dwellers of Navjeevan Camp and Jawahar Camp.
