Manipur Crisis: Five Things Centre Has Told Supreme Court On Horrific Video Of Women Paraded Naked

The disturbing video of two women being paraded naked originating from strife-ridden Manipur, has ignited a political controversy, prompting the opposition to call for a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the state's situation.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into the case. The central government has emphasised its "zero tolerance towards any crimes against women" in this matter.
Here are the five points made by the central government to the Supreme Court regarding the Manipur crisis:
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has requested the Supreme Court to transfer the trial of the case to another state. This is to ensure that the trial is completed within a specific timeframe.
So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the case.
"The approach of the central government is of zero tolerance towards any crimes against women. The central government considers the offences like the present one to be too heinous which deserve to be taken not only with the seriousness it deserves but justice should be seen to be done so that it has a deterrent effect throughout the nation with respect to crimes against women," the MHA said in an affidavit.
The Supreme Court has been requested by the centre to pass an order directing the CBI to conclude the trial within six months from the date of the chargesheet being filed.
According to the centre, the Manipur government has established district psychological support teams to offer mental health intervention at various relief camps. This information was provided to the Supreme Court.
The centre has deployed several police teams to different locations in order to apprehend the suspects that have been identified so far.
Additionally, an additional Superintendent of Police (SP) has been assigned to lead the investigation, which is being supervised by other senior officials.
Since 3 May, Manipur has been experiencing unrest, starting with a 'Tribal Solidarity March' held in the hill districts to protest the majority Meitei community's plea for scheduled tribe status.
Tragically, the ongoing ethnic violence has resulted in the loss of at least 150 lives, leaving several hundred others injured.
